Meet Meridith

Yoga, wellness, conscious breathing & mindful movement

Hi, I'm Meridith Hootstein. I've been teaching yoga and meditation for over 25 years, working with people of different ages, abilities, and stages of life.

My approach to yoga is simple: you don't have to be flexible, experienced, or fit a certain image to enjoy the benefits of yoga. I create welcoming classes that combine gentle movement, stretching, breathing, mindfulness, traditional yoga poses, and relaxation.

"My goal is for you to leave class feeling better than when you arrived — more relaxed, more comfortable in your body, and more connected to yourself."

Over the years, I've taught traditional vinyasa mat yoga classes, meditation, chair yoga, prenatal yoga, mommy and me yoga, senior wellness, corporate and private groups, and yoga and mindfulness for individuals in recovery.

Our Name

The story behind Hoot Yoga

Sometimes a name just feels meant to be. With a last name like Hootstein, "Hoot" has always been part of our family identity. Over the years, my family and I naturally developed a special love for owls — a playful connection to our name that became something more meaningful to me.

Then came the aha! moment: Hoot Yoga. The more I thought about it, the more I realized how beautifully the owl represents not only my family namesake, but also the spirit of yoga.

Owls are known for their wisdom, awareness, intuition, patience, and quiet strength. They are incredibly observant, able to sit in stillness while remaining completely present. They symbolize seeing clearly, trusting your instincts, finding your way, and looking at things from a different perspective. Those same qualities are at the heart of yoga.

Yoga teaches us to slow down and notice. To breathe. To find balance. To become stronger while remaining soft. To listen to our bodies, trust ourselves, and discover our own inner wisdom. And just like the owl, there's room for a little personality and playfulness too.

"It feels personal. It feels meaningful. And most importantly, it feels like me."

So Hoot Yoga brings together something I've loved for years — my family, my name, my love of owls, and my love of yoga.

I've practiced yoga for most of my adult life, and your classes have brought something truly special to my practice. It's remarkable how intuitively you sense exactly where my body needs attention — almost like you can see inside it. Whenever I'm carrying tension in a certain area, you have a way of guiding the practice right to that spot, as if you knew before I did. Your transitions between poses are so smooth and thoughtful, they've genuinely helped me deepen my practice in ways I didn't expect. Thank you for your gift, your presence, and the care you bring to every session.
